- Stomach aches
- Nausea
- Dry, sensitive skin
- Mouth ulcers
- Headaches
- Loss of hair
- Weakness
- Loss of muscle mass – she is now all skin and bones
Anna also developed a serious infection which made her lose 20 pounds in a week and resulted in excessive weakness to stand up or even walk.
What are the symptoms of blood cancer?
In all types of leukemia, the symptoms are most commonly caused by a lack of normal blood cells than the presence of abnormal white cells. However, the symptoms are not too specific for a doctor to make the diagnosis by simply spotting the signs – it requires lab tests. When the bone marrow becomes full of leukemia cells, it fails to produce a sufficient number of normal blood cells. Some of the common symptoms of blood cancer are:
- Fever
- Bleeding
- Bruising
- Anaemia
- Weakness
- Frequent, recurrent infections
- Tiredness
- Fatigue
Talk of blood cancer treatment, the method is highly variable and depends on the pace at which cancer grows. For slow-growing leukemias, treatment could include monitoring. However, aggressive blood cancer is treated with chemotherapy – sometimes radiation and stem-cell transplant.
