Indian singer KK, short for Krishnakumar Kunnath, died of heart attack on May 31, 2022 just hours after giving a live performance at Kolkata. He was 53 years old.

KK reportedly felt unwell while performing at a concert at Nazrul Manch in Kolkata. The show began at 5 pm. After the show he returned to his hotel in Esplanade, where he complained of uneasiness. He was rushed to Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) at around 10:30 pm, where he was declared dead.

KK’s death has left fans and followers across the country heart broken.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his heartfelt condolences for the singer. “Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions and struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti,” he wrote.

KK is survived by his wife Jyothy, and their two children, son Nakul Krishna Kunnath and daughter Tamara Kunnath.

Heart attack, also known as myocardial infarction in medical terms, occurs when the blood supply to the heart is blocked mostly due to a blood clot. The blockage which stops the flow of the blood can due to a buildup of fat, cholesterol and other substances in the coronary arteries.

As per reports he felt uneasiness after reaching his hotel room post completion of his performance. Later he collapsed.

His day started with having 3-4 glasses of warm water in the morning, followed by eating boiled eggs and fruits. His breakfast was healthy and filling. He had cereals and oatmeals for breakfast. Legumes and green salads mostly comprised his lunch along with some grilled vegetables. For dinner he mostly skipped rice and had dal and rice.

Heart attack cases have risen during the pandemic, researchers have said.

“Even a mild case of COVID can increase a person’s risk of cardiovascular problems for at least a year after diagnosis, a new study shows. ” Researchers found that rates of many conditions, such as heart failure and stroke, were substantially higher in people who had recovered from COVID-19 than in similar people who hadn’t had the disease. What’s more, the risk was elevated even for those who were under 65 years of age and lacked risk factors, such as obesity or diabetes,” a Nature report said.

The report published in February, 2022 says that the risk of heart failure increased by 72% during COVID. People who had recovered from COVID were 52% more likely to have had a stroke than the contemporary control group.

Revered poet Rahat Indori suffered a a cardiac arrest after testing positive for coronavirus COVID-19 in Indore. Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam had succumbed to COVID infection in 2020. Kannada actor Chiranjeevi Sarja died in June due to a cardiac arrest.

Legendary Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan had also died of cardiac arrest in July, 2020. Veteran actress Surekha Sikri had breathed her last in July following a cardiac arrest.

Actors Sidharth Shukla and Puneeth Rajkumar had succumbed to heart attack and cardiac arrest, respectively.

The untimely death of these actors having illustrious careers was mourned by the entire nation.
